Vacation – my style

So many of you already know this about me but most probably do not.  I don’t really like vacations.  Let me explain.

Now what I do love is being off work.  But what I don’t love is long vacations.  I am an admitted homebody.  I like short weekend trips and that does me just fine.  I have never traveled outside of the US – other than Mexico.  I don’t have any real desire to travel outside of the US (except for maybe one place).  Maybe I am a little too “country” but it just does not appeal to me.

I’m sure I am missing out on lots of great stuff.  I don’t disagree with that.  The thing is I like being at home.

However I make a few exceptions – like this week.  This is what I like to do for a vacation – travel to visit wonderful friends and / or family and just spend time together.  No need to do touristy stuff – just regular every day life is fine with me.

Take today for instance – Elizabeth and I have access to a boat on the beautiful lake but right now we are watching t.v. , returning emails, reading (I am on my 3rd book of the trip) and just really doing nothing.  We feel sort of guilty…but not too much.  I am totally content to just look out the beautiful windows of this wonderful lakeside home and just look.  I’m perfectly happy with a mid-afternoon nap. We stay up late (cocktails are involved) and sleep in.  This is vacation for me.

Now this year I did tell myself that I would travel outside of the US – but I haven’t gotten there yet.  Maybe one day. Until then, I’ll just enjoy my little trips here and there.  .
